Happy Mother’s Day!
Today is a day to celebrate, to be celebrated and to shower the most precious women in our lives with love.
To my beautiful boys: there are not enough words to truly express how lucky I am that I get to be your mum. It’s never perfect but we fill each day with love, silliness, cuddles and laughter. There is no greater joy in my life than you and I am immensely proud of the little humans you are. Sometimes I feel like I’m getting it all wrong and then you wrap your little arms around my neck and tell me “I love you” or “you’re my best friend” and I know we’re doing ok (or that you want something….). The overwhelming sense of deep love and fierce protectiveness I felt from the second I knew of you is incomparable. My heart is full.
To my mummy: you are beautiful. You are fierce and loyal and generous. You are vulnerable and brave. You have taught me a million lessons. You are the whisper in my ear and my very first source of true light and love. You love with your whole heart and you have always shown me that when life knocks you down, you take a minute, dust yourself off and get back up. Your smile lights up a room and your hugs make everything better. I am proud of you. I adore you. My babies cherish you. We love you so very much.
To my nan: I’ve said this a zillion times but you will never understand how unbelievably grateful I am that you’re here. For me, for mum, for Robbie and for my boys. You are by far the funniest person I know. I adore your love of family and our history and cherishing where we have come from. You help everyone around you (even when then they don’t yet know they need the help 😉 ) You’re tough but warm. You have taught us all the importance of resilience. And packing spare underwear because you just never know if you’ll be hit by a bus (and to this day I’ve never quite worked out just how I would change my undies whilst lying there having been hit by the bus….) Anyway. You definitely do things “old school” and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Our family would not be what it is without you. You are our safe place. You’re amazing and beautiful and I love you so, so much.
To my mumma friends: you each amaze with your strength and courage and love. You are raising spectacular humans. I have learnt something valuable from each and every one of you and I do better because of you. I’m proud of you. Even on the days you don’t feel like you’re winning at parenthood, know you are wonderful, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
To my friends with mums gazing down on you today from above:
Your mother is always with you. She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street. She’s the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself. She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well. She’s your breath in the air on a cold winter’s day. She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep. She is the colours of a rainbow. She is Christmas morning.
Your mother lives inside your laughter. She’s the place you came from, your first home, and she’s the map you follow with every step you take. She’s your first love, your best friend, even your first enemy, but nothing can separate you. Not time, not space, not passing, not anything.
Whether she’s here or near, far away or above. Enjoy today. Celebrate each other. I hope your day is filled with love and memories and laughter and a bunch of lovely things.
Lots of love,
